MADness #63- America’s Top Mobster!
It’s F#%*ing monday already??!? It’s time to make you another offer you can’t refuse! This parody just fell off the back of a truck! Fuggedaboutit! Our hit job this week is a mash up style parody of “America’s Top Model” and “The Sopranos” entitled “America’s Top Mobster.” Written by my CLAPTRAP cohort Desmond Devlin and first appearing in MAD #482, Oct 2007.
If I remember right, I had to do this piece in about 2 weeks, and some of the time I was travelling, so this was a seriously rushed job, which probably explains the preponderance of monochrome coloring. I suspect I colored this whole thing in one day.
Fortunately at only four pages it wasn’t a really tough job. This might also be the first job I ever did my own page mechanicals on… meaning up until this one MAD always sent me the large bristol boards with the panels and word boxes already drawn in pencil. Eventually I was doing my own boards for everything.
But that’s not all for this issue! The cover feature for issue #482 was called “MAD‘s 50 Worst Things About Advertising”, and there was a lot of spot illustrations by a lot of different artists. I did #17:
Toon in next week when we make more fun of advertising, and its bizarre seeping into other media entertainment!
