Des did the honors in our regular Tuesday CLAPTRAP update today, announcing the twelfth and final movie parody for our upcoming book CLAPTRAP… we added a Christmas film! That’s right, the original “Die Hard” was never spoofed in MAD, and we’re going to give it the business in our book! That makes our full list the following: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker The Shawshank Redemption Psycho Goodfellas The Big Lebowski Toy Story 4 Unforgiven Blade Runner The Blues Brothers The Princess Bride Citizen Kane Die Hard Phew. I’d better get back to work! Remember, you can always pre-order your copy here, and don’t forget… READ MORE

I’ve done a number of podcast interviews in the last year or two, but this one is definitely a favorite. From the Middle is a “comedy, entertainment, and culture podcast” hosted by Kory and Dillon Hubbell and Kendall Eilola. There are a lot of those types of podcasts, but Kory told me that they made an effort to ask questions of guests that are not your typical type of questions… and he was right. At no point to they ask what pen nib I use. We talk about family, the comics and illustration industry, making a living as a cartoonist in the 21st century, and… READ MORE

My Virtual Artists Alley table is closed up! Thanks to all who stopped by. I have an ENORMOUS list of commissions to do that will take me a long time, especially while I’m working on CLAPTRAP and other freelance jobs. Gotta get back to the drawing board! READ MORE

Since no one can be at C2E2 in Chicago this weekend, I’m doing another of my “Virtual Artist’s Alley” booth events during the original 2021 C2E2 dates. That’s this weekend! This Friday March 26th was supposed to be the start of the big three day 2021 C2E2 comic con, but it has of course been cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic. It’s been rescheduled for Dec 10-12, and we’ll see if shows like this are back to being allowed by then. Let’s hope so. I’m hoping I can make it if they do. In the meantime, I am going to do another “Virtual Artist’s Alley” table event on the dates I would have been sitting in a real artist’s alley table at McCormick Place in Chicago. Like the ones I did last year, I’ll be… READ MORE

I’m not sure if you are aware of this, but some things happened in 2020 that forced me to cancel or postpone a bunch of my in-person caricature workshops. It’s a long story but last May this motley crew seen above was SUPPOSED to spend the weekend drawing together in Long Island City, NY. We had to postpone the workshop and then tried to reschedule it for August, optimistically thinking the pandemic would be under control by then. Well… it wasn’t. I was able to squeeze in a couple of workshops in Detroit and Chicago during the short-lived downtick in the pandemic this past late… READ MORE

Work on Desmond Devlin and my book of MAD style movie parodies, CLAPTRAP, proceeds apace! Des is working on scripts while I have the art for several parodies in various stages of completion, from production layouts to rough sketches to pencils and inks, and finally full color finals. Along with full splash pages we will occasionally post finished panels or WIP images as sneak peeks. Here’s one now! This is the first story panel of our parody of “The Shawshank Redemption”, the splash page of which was shared earlier… Our spoof is 8 pages of sidesplitting hilarity, but you’ll have to wait until the book comes out to… READ MORE

Yesterday Comic-Con International made the not very surprising announcement that the 2021 San Diego Comic-Con was not going to take place in July as an in-person event, but will instead be held “virtually” as it was in 2020. So, that’s two years of SDCC wiped out by the pandemic. Here’s their official press release. Again, not surprising. These types of mega events that feature cavernous indoor convention centers packed shoulder to shoulder with shuffling, droplet spewing humanity are the very last things that will return. Forget about catching a virus, after a walk across the SDCC convention floor I come out the other side smeared… READ MORE
