Sketch by Morrie Turner for The Lovely Anna from 2003… nobody ever sketches for me, but Anna gets them all the time. I was sad to hear of the passing of a giant in the cartooning world this past weekend- Morris “Morrie” Turner, the creator of the syndicated comic strip “Wee Pals” and one of the real pioneers and heroes of cartooning. Comic book super-legend Russ Heath will receive the Milton Caniff Lifetime Achievement award from the National Cartoonists Society at their annual Reuben Award Weekend this May in San Diego. 2013 NCS Divisional Awards Call for Entries

The National Cartoonists Society is starting it’s annual call for entries for consideration for their NCS Divisional Awards recognizing excellence in professional cartooning. As always, you DO NOT have to be a member of the NCS to have your work considered for a divisional award… all that is required is that the work be eligible as detailed below. Book News: Fifth Printing!

Hard to believe but I just ordered a fifth printing of The Mad Art of Caricature! The staying power of the book’s sales is really amazing, especially through traditional brick and mortar stores. My distributor really goes through them, and we have very few returns meaning they aren’t sitting on shelves too long.¬¨‚Ä† I don’t think I will run out of the current stock before the reprint arrives, but it will be a close thing. I’ve had a lot of people ask me when or if I’ll ever have a digital version that can be downloaded and read on the ubiquitous iPad or other tablet devices.
