Sketch by Morrie Turner for The Lovely Anna from 2003… nobody ever sketches for me, but Anna gets them all the time. I was sad to hear of the passing of a giant in the cartooning world this past weekend- Morris “Morrie” Turner, the creator of the syndicated comic strip “Wee Pals” and one of the real pioneers and heroes of cartooning. I got a call from mutual friend Scott Nichol out in California with the news on Sunday night. Morrie doing the Lovely Anna’s sketch at a picnic in Santa Rosa in 2003. Sad to say I wasn’t very familiar with Morrie’s work until… READ MORE

Earlier this fall I was contacted by the people behind the adorable LindaLee Rose, a five year old Whovian who hosts the YouTube series Lindalee’s Doctor Who Review, about how much they loved my limited edition print. I sent them a couple, and now LindaLee is offering to give one away in a contest on her show. Just watch the above or visit this direct link to watch her latest “Fan Art” episode with the contest details. If you watch the entire (about 5 minute) episode, you’ll see her last contest gave the winner a custom piece of “name art” with their name created… READ MORE
Hard to believe but I just ordered a fifth printing of The Mad Art of Caricature! The staying power of the book’s sales is really amazing, especially through traditional brick and mortar stores. My distributor really goes through them, and we have very few returns meaning they aren’t sitting on shelves too long.¬¨‚Ć I don’t think I will run out of the current stock before the reprint arrives, but it will be a close thing. I have made little progress with the “version 2.0” of the book, which was to include material I cut from the original book due to space, and some things I… READ MORE
Since I self-published The Mad Art of Caricature! I’ve had a lot of people ask me when or if I’ll ever have a digital version that can be downloaded and read on the ubiquitous iPad or other tablet devices. I have been reluctant to do that because I didn’t want to make it so easy for the inevitable pirating of my book and its distribution for nothing via unscrupulous “sharing” websites. I have rethought that position, and now am happy to announce that The Mad Art of Caricature! is available via a PDF digital download immediately in my Studio Store! Why the change of heart?… READ MORE
An Open Letter to all Cartoonists: This is a wonderful time of year for most of us. Thanksgiving is one of those holidays that isn’t about commercialism, selling toys or candy, or giving presents… it’s about the gathering of family and friends to enjoy a meal together and give thanks for the things that are important in life…health, family, community and any other blessings we might be lucky enough to have been granted in the last year. For some people, the things they are thankful for can seem very distant in the face of the challenges life has placed in their path. As with any… READ MORE
