2013 OSU Festival of Cartoon Art

The ribbon cutting!! The Lovely Anna and I attended the 2013 OSU Festival of Cartoon Art this past weekend in Columbus, OH. This is a triennial event and was extra-special this year because it was also the grand opening of the new Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum, the new facility and home for OSU’s unmatched collection of original cartoon art, publications and books on cartooning. The weekend featured many terrific speakers including Jeff Smith, Matt Bors, Eddie Campbell, Stephan Pastis, Brian Bassett, Gilbert and Jamie Hernandez and Kazu Kibuishi. Congratulations to “The Lockhorns” (among other things) Bunny Hoest and John Reiner, who will be honored with the prestigious National Cartoonists Society Gold Key Award at the annual Reuben Awards this May in San Diego! DC Comics Moving to Burbank

Holy melanoma, Batman! Back in 2010 DC Comics, in an effort to integrate DC Entertainment more into the Time/Warner entertainment division, moved its digital and multi-media sections out to the Warner Bros. complex in Burbank, CA, but left the publishing end of DC Comics in the New York offices. At the time they said that the “New York publishing culture” was important to the division and that publishing operations would stay in NYC. Tom’s Toon Talks
