This is a tough day for cartooning. In addition to the passing of Jack Davis, we also lost the very talented Richard Thompson. Richard was best know for the brilliant daily syndicated strip “Cul de Sac” and the weekly Washington Post comic “Poor Richard’s Almanac”, but he was also a terrific illustrator and an incredible caricaturist. His work has appeared in major publications like US News and World Report, National Geographic, The New Yorker and others. He was honored with the 2010 National Cartoonists Society’s Reuben Award for “Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year” among many other awards and honors. I did not know Richard very… READ MORE

One of the greatest cartoonists who ever lived just left this world… the afterlife is going to be a much funnier place starting today. The great Jack Davis passed away today at age 91. No conversation about the the best of the best in the world of comics, cartooning and/or humorous illustration would ever be complete without his name near the top of the list. Jack was a cartoonists’s cartoonist, an man of immense talent and an eye for visual humor that left the entire world laughing at his simplest of drawings. He was one of the original EC Comics artists on their much beloved… READ MORE

A couple of years ago I was a guest on a terrific podcast series called “I Hear of Sherlock Everywhere”, having been asked on the show because of my just-then-released Sherlock limited edition print, some other Sherlock stuff I’ve done like audiobook cover and a sculpted pen, and the fact that I am a bit of a Sherlockian myself. That podcast just released a special 100th episode, with loads of guests and a look back at their remarkable run. If you are a fan of Sherlock Holmes, go take a listen and add “I Hear of Sherlock Everywhere” to your podcast list. Congrats to hosts… READ MORE

The International Society of Caricature Artists is a 25 year old organization of professional caricaturists from around the world. They’ve had a podcast for awhile called the ISCast but recently rebranded it “Exaggerated Features“, which is also the title of their long running newsletter/magazine. I was interviewed by host Cory Lally for the latest episode. The podcast is now available on iTunes and via Soundcast. It’s only 13 minutes long, so it’s not a major time commitment. I’m the first in an ongoing series that asks different artists “What is a Caricature?” My initial answer was “about $30”, but Cory wanted something more in-depth. If… READ MORE

Well, that didn’t take long. The second workshop is now also sold out. Sorry, I am not going to add a third one. If these go well I’ll do another one in September next year. For anybody who missed out- please email me privately and get on the wait list. I already had one person from the original workshop back out and a waitlister got it, so don’t assume there’s no way you can attend. Send me a request to be on the wait list and I’ll let you know if a spot opens up. First come first served, and if you decide you can’t… READ MORE
