The International Society of Caricature Artists is a worldwide organization of caricaturists that welcomes all practitioners of the art form, from live street artists to gig/event artists to illustrators to fine artists and everywhere in between. If you do caricature, you are part of their family. Every year they have a big convention/competition somewhere in the U.S., where hundreds of caricaturists from all over the planet gather and draw each other silly for 5 days, eventually voting on winners in many different categories and crowning a “Caricaturist of the Year” (aka the “Golden Nosey”). This is crazy, but I am going to be a special guest at the Delhi Comic Con, New Delhi, India on December 9-11th. I’m being joined by fellow special guest Erik Larsen of Image Comics “Savage Dragon” (among lots of other things) fame for the three day event. I’m honored and humbled by the invitation… also I love curry. I’ll be doing a presentation and participating in a few panels as well as signing stuff and meeting and greeting fans (I’m assured MAD magazine is well known in India… really??). The Los Angeles chapter of the National Cartoonists Society is having a chapter benefit event this Sunday at the home of Sally Lazarus (widow of the late great Mell Lazarus) featuring a live auction with a ton of awesome original cartoon artwork. I will not have my full compliment of junk to sell there (quick one day show), but I’ll have copies of my Sketch o’the Week and Mad Art of Caricature book, a bunch of mini-prints, some blank MAD sketch covers, a few pages of original MAD artwork, and I’ll be doing commissions and caricatures. I am getting very close to having enough people on my waitlist for my planned Orlando Caricature Workshop in January to add a second one either the weekend before or after. I have gotten more than enough response to move ahead with plans for the London Caricature Workshop! It will be a little different than the ones I have done here, only being on Saturday and Sunday but with slightly extended hours.
