Image courtesy MAD Magazine MAD lost another longtime member of the Usual Gang of Idiots this past week with the passing of Paul Peter Porges at age 89. Porges led a very interesting life. Born in Vienna in 1927, he fled the Nazis as a child via France before being captured and placed in a deportment camp. He escaped by hiding in a garbage collection and was smuggled into Switzerland, where he studied art and met his future wife, Lucie. Great news, my Las Vegas workshop is back on for Feb 7th-8th and 9th, 2017! It will take place at High Class Studios, 5240 West Charleston Blvd in Las Vegas. This is a brand new teaching/studio facility owned by Jason Neistadt, and we will be one of the first if not THE first event on the remodeled property. It will be a great space for the workshop. The downside for anyone coming in from out of town is that this is not a hotel, so out-of-towners will need to find a hotel on their own. Sorry to say my meeting space booking for the Las Vegas Workshop in February suddenly fell through, and I will not be able to do it on those dates because all of my alternate spaces are also booked up. So, I am going to have to rethink the dates and replan the entire thing. This is the second time a hotel has dropped the ball on me… my London workshop had to switch to a different hotel at the last second also. Very frustrating. Art for Delhi Comic Con exclusive poster Tomorrow is the start of Delhi Comic Con at the NSIC Grounds in Okhla, South New Delhi. I’ll be there all three days signing stuff, doing drawings and making a presentation on Sunday. I did the above illustration as a Delhi Comic Con exclusive for the show. It’s an imaginary MAD cover featuring Alfred as the title character from the Bollywood film “Enthiran” (“Robot” in English) starring a well-known and loved actor here in India, Rajinikanth. The past weekend I conducted my first ever out-of-town workshop… and it was WAAAAY out of town–London, England! The class of twelve included a wide range of experience and levels of skill. It went from some who were basically beginners who were interested in doing caricatures all the way to some local caricature legends. All were enthusiastic and we had a great time.
