Nothing says “Christmas” quite as much as traveling to Florida for a few days in the sunshine and visiting the House of Mouse. The Lovely Anna, all four kids and I are off to see some sites, visit with some good friends and otherwise escape what has already been a rough winter in Minnesota (14 inches of snow since Christmas Eve). I leave behind more snow on the way, a broken snowblower and a whole pile of work that will need some serious attention upon our return. As always, the posts will keep on rolling on The MAD Blog. Thanks for visiting. READ MORE

The Great Art Blowout Sale was an overwhelming success. I listed 61 total pieces of original artwork all done for a particular client for the low, low price of $25.00 each, and sold all but 6 of them. The other people standing in line at the post office were not too happy with me when I lugged over 30 packages up to the counter the other day… 16 of which went to destinations outside the U.S. I heard a few “Bah, Humbugs!… and some other more colorful vernacular. Ah… the %$#@* Holiday Spirit! All orders have been packaged and mailed, the final three going out… READ MORE

Wow. The response has been overwhelming for The Great Art Blowout sale… I am practically sold out and people are clamoring for more. I don’t have a whole lot more of these Marlin poster illustrations (I lost a lot of them over the years) , but I did have about ten that I did not include in the original blowout sale for various reasons. Some was because I felt that too much of the work had been done on the digital end, and the inked image didn’t make a lot of sense. For those I did a little filling in here and there where possible… READ MORE

EDIT- WOW, these are going FAST. Don’t wait around if you want to get your favorite. In the process or remodeling my studio I had to clean out my flat files, and while doing so I came to the following conclusion: I have way too much original artwork laying about. To remedy this situation I have weeded through the immense pile of original inked illustration I have done over the last decade or so for The Marlin Company’s employee subscription posters and made fifty (that’s 50!!!) of them available for the low, low price of.. $25.00 each! That’s right! Now you can own an original… READ MORE

If you’ve never watched any of cartoonist Tom Gammill‘s “How to Draw” video shorts, you are in for a treat. They are clever, funny and always entertaining. As of this writing there are two dozen installments… the video above is one my favorites. You can check them all out here. READ MORE

Image ©1971 by National Lampoon Back in October of 1971, National Lampoon published a scathing parody of MAD that is today the stuff of legend. National Lampoon, like most humor magazines of that time (and a lot of humor period over the next several decades) owed a lot to MAD and its artists and writers were obviously heavily influenced by the magazine. As a result the parody, while being pretty brutal and pulling no punches, seemed much more of a needling with love by a close relative than a bitter attack. The staff of MAD, as the story goes, were delighted with it.¬¨‚Ć National Lampoon… READ MORE
