Sketch o’the Week- Rutger Hauer!

July 25th, 2019 | Posted in Sketch O'The Week

I was sorry to hear of the passing of actor Rutger Hauer yesterday. “Blade Runner” is probably my favorite Sci-Fi movie of all time, or at least in the top three. He was one of the big reasons. He could have played the role of Roy Batty as a cartoonish villain, but he imbued him with more humanity than most of the human characters in the film had. I know his career was a LOT more than that film, but that was an iconic performance. Anyway he fits perfectly into my “classic action heroes” series except for the hero part… but I don’t care! RIP… READ MORE

July 24th, 2019 | Posted in MAD Magazine

MAD posted a small sneak peek of the “Lousy Law” parody art today on their Instagram. This is a cropped panel from the five page parody of the fictional TV show Leonardo DiCaprio’s character in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” was the star of in the late 50’s/early 60’s. I’ll post more sneak peeks once the issue hit’s the stands (that’s the last time I’ll be able to say THAT) on Aug 6th. READ MORE

Cover for MAD #9

July 23rd, 2019 | Posted in General

Since Quentin Tarantino and Jimmy Kimmel showed this off on the Kimmel show last night, MAD officially released the cover of #9 on Twitter today so I can share it here. Art by me but if you are looking at it and thinking “those look just like Jack Davis feet” you’d be right… I was instructed to channel Jack as part of the whole retro early 60’s vibe. There’s a lot more story to all this but I have to wait until the issue comes out to spill it. READ MORE

Last night on the Jimmy Kimmel show “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” director Quentin Tarantino was very enthusiastic about the next issue of MAD Magazine (that part starts at the 6:35 mark). I will share the story about how this all came about and share the artwork after the issue comes out on Aug 5th (or earlier if MAD does the official reveal themselves). READ MORE

San Diego Commissions!

San Diego Comic Con was so crazy I forgot to take pictures of all but a couple of the commissions and drawings I did for people. Above is one of the many sketchcovers I did during the show, and below is a “live” style caricature of Mark Hamill as “The Joker” from Batman: The Animated Series. READ MORE

Sunday Mailbag: Comic Con Commissions?

July 21st, 2019 | Posted in Mailbag

Q: If I send you a picture of my kids/grandpa/dog/boss/neighbors/etc can you do the same thing you do at comic-cons and mail it to me? A: I get asked this all the time when I have a booth at a comic con, either when the person inquiring does not have a picture of the person they want drawn or I am already booked up for the show and they want it done anyway. Unfortunately the type of commission I do at comic cons I ONLY do at comic cons. They are a cross between quick draw live caricatures and brush pen/marker drawings, and I don’t… READ MORE

Michigan Comic Con Poster Art

July 19th, 2019 | Posted in News

Speaking of Comic Cons, I’m going to be a special guest at Michigan Comic Con next month, and I was asked to do the art for the official convention poster. Image above. The initial idea to spoof the cover of MAD #243 with Iron Man was the convention folk’s, but I added Alfred and a couple of other gags. This poster will be available FREE to convention attendees while supplies last! Michigan Comic Con takes place at Aug 16-18th at the Cobo Center in Detroit. Come to the show, get a free poster and bring it by my booth and I’ll sign it! READ MORE
