I try really hard when I do a comic-con to only do commissions while there, and not ahead of time or take them home and ship them later. This is for two reasons. First, it makes this kind of thing unique in that you can only get one these from me at a comic con, and it’s (mostly) the only time I work in brush pen and Copic markers. With all the hullabaloo about MAD‘s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” cover and “Bounty Law” parody, I haven’t mentioned I did the art on ANOTHER parody in MAD #9. This one is called “Behind the Scenes of Dizzy’s The Lion King”, written by comedian Akilah Hughes. In our previous episode I told the story about how I got hired to do illustrations of a fake TV Guide and MAD cover to be used as props for Quentin Tarantino’s new movie “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”. The adventure continues… Having ended up delivering the images that were going to appear in the film digitally because of a sudden change of shooting dates, I now had plenty of time to do the actual painted versions. Q: You’ve mentioned that there are strict rules in regards to the depiction of Alfred on the cover of MAD, insomuch he can’t be depicted side on, or with certain expressions. How come the Australian version of MAD has been able to get away with various artists drawing his face from different angles, and with various expressions on his face?
