Note the triumphant return of Sam Viviano and Charlie Kadau to the world of TV parodies with the spoof of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”. While Charlie last wrote a parody a mere 11 years ago with “Deathster” in MAD #490 (June 2008), Sam’s last full blown MAD movie/TV parody was WAAAAAAY back in 1998 with #376’s “Hollowscream- It’s 2 Slow”.

This is the big Tarantino issue with my cover and a 5 page parody of the fictitious “Bounty Law” show from the film, written by Emmy nominated writer from “Late Night with Conan O’Brien”, “The Goldbergs”, etc., Andrew Secunda. Tomorrow I’ll post part three of “The Tarantino Story” (for all three of you who are not sick of hearing me talk about it) with the low down on how we did a parody of a TV show that never existed and how I approached making it look like a 1960’s spoof. I also did a 5 page spoof (sort of) of The Lion King written by author, comedian and YouTuber Akilah Hughes.

Now, what are you waiting for??? Go out and buy the issue, clod!

Comments

  1. Doug Gilford says:

    Tom,
You’re right that variations of the straightjacket ad appeared, but that particular full-pager featured comes from the inside back cover of #46.

  2. David Lubin says:

I received my copy on Saturday, and have to say it was one of the best issues of MAD in a long time. The two parodies were awesome, and your rendering of “Lousy Law” was the best. The first 10 pages or so, reminiscent of MAD from the 60s was right on, including, if you looked carefully, slight yellowing around the edges of the pages. And including Lucy in a scene, as she has been before, was KILLER! We’ll miss your work, Tom, but looking forward to the third installment of the Tarantino saga.

  3. Quincy says:

Tom – Is MAD #10 not going to be on the stands?

    • Tom Richmond says:

No. Issue #9 is the last one to be on news stands. #10 will only be available through subscription or at direct sales stores (i.e. Comic Book Shops)

  4. Doug says:

This is the 9th issue of the new MAD and 9th Tarantino movie. Weird. Looking forward to the conclusion of your story.

  5. Mike says:

Great to see you contribute three different things to this issue! (by the way, I believe it’s Dalton Vaughn not Vaugh).

  6. Jon says:

Tom, can’t wait to read your piece! I’m a longtime fan of yours who got his first MAD piece in this issue (that FOX Disneyland piece). Hope I wasn’t what tanked the magazine by adding one idiot too many!

  7. john mccann says:

How much money would DC save having MAD in comic shops and subscribers only WITH all new content? I don’t see why they can’t do this in stages and see what happens.
