After a couple of years off I was asked to do the artwork for the National Cartoonists Society’s annual Reuben Awards Weekend again this year. The event will be in Kansas City (the one in Missouri… you know, where the Superbowl Champion Chiefs are located). The speaker lineup is ridiculous and several people are getting big awards for their contributions to the world of cartooning. The National Cartoonists Society announced the 2017 Reuben Awards Weekend speaker lineup today, along with the artwork I did for the brochure. These Reuben Award illustrations are something I have been doing for quite a few years now, ever since I was approached by then NCS prez Steve McGarry about doing something for the 2003 Reuben Awards in San Fransisco. Sometimes the art was used on the official Reuben T-Shirt, and sometimes it was for the brochure, and once or twice for both. Clicky to embiggen… I once again abused the faces of the guest speakers/special guests of the National Cartoonists Society’s Reuben Awards Weekend in the annual NCS Reuben brochure. This year the event will be held in beautiful Pittsburgh, PA. The scene above is of one of their famous “inclines”, a kind of cable car/train that goes up the steep side of the surrounding bluffs and gives you a commanding view of the picturesque three rivers valley.
