MAD’s “Don’t Let the Penguin Drive the Batmobile”!

June 7th, 2018 | Posted in MAD Magazine

I guess the word is out on this, so I can share it here. First there was Goodnight Batcave, then there was Superman and the Miserable, Rotten, No Fun, Really Bad Day. Now MAD continues it’s shameful desecration of everyone’s childhood memories with the third volume in their kid’s book parody series, Don’t Let the Penguin Drive the Batmobile! Former MAD associate editor Jacob Lambert does the dishonors with the writing this time, while I mail it in with the artwork. This book has actually been done for over a year, and I have twice had to have a face to face conversation with an… READ MORE

Monday MADness- The Kid’s Book Parody that Wasn’t!

July 6th, 2020 | Posted in Monday MADness

Back in 2016 MAD started producing a series of parodies of children’s books starting with Goodnight Batcave (spoofing the beloved Margaret Wise Brown/Clement Hurd classic Goodnight Moon) written by MAD editor Dave Croatto with art by me. We followed that in 2017 with Superman and and the Miserable, Rotten, No Fun, Really Bad Day, also written by Dave with art by me, and in 2018 with Don’t Let the Penguin Drive the Batmobile, this time penned by another MAD editor, Jacob Lambert, and again with art by yours truly. Shortly after MAD moved to Burbank in early 2018, we actually pitched another kids book parody… READ MORE

NYCC Starts Thursday!

October 1st, 2019 | Posted in News

Deadlines conquered. Wrapping up a couple of odd jobs today and packing up for New York Comic Con. What’s new at NYCC at my booth this year? I’ll have my exclusive NYCC print, copies of “Don’t Let the Penguin Drive the Batmobile” , my “Tarantino Time Warp” MAD #9 cover print and this new ” “Tarantino TV Guide” mini print you see above. This is not the 11×14 full sized print I have here on the website, but a 6 x 8 inch “mini print”. The cool thing about this is that it’s about the same size as an actual old school TV Guide cover… READ MORE

Come See Me at C2E2!

That’s right, another comic-con. TWO WEEKENDS IN A ROW!! This is one of my favorites of the year, though. C2E2 at McCormick Place in Chicago. I’ll be in Artist’s Alley at table P-14 with my usual stack of stuff. New since last year will be copies of “Don’t let the Penguin Drive the Batmobile” and “Sketch o’the Week Vol 2”, plus my Catwoman print. Of course I’ll be doing commissions and caricatures. This is also the only comic-con I do where I bring full sized original MAD pages along. That’s because they are huge and since I drive in it makes it feasable. I’m also… READ MORE

The Reviews Are In!

October 25th, 2018 | Posted in General

Well, one review anyway… from Batman-news.com. They have some nice things to say about Jacob Lambert and my new book Don’t Let the Penguin Drive the Batmobile. Of the three kids book parodies I drew for MAD, this was my favorite. I find it more challenging to parody the look of a more simple, minimalist art style than a more illustrative, elaborate kind of art. It took some thinking and experimenting to merge the Batverse with the Mo Willems Pigeonverse, but in order for a parody of something like Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus to work, the look of the visuals must capture… READ MORE
