Almost Live from Cali Colombia

September 18th, 2009 | Posted in General

In an odd coincidence just hours before I learned of the passing of Ismael Roldan, I was reminded of his being instrumental in making it possible for me to visit Colombia last summer when Colombian television reporter and personality Cristina Valencia emailed me a link to the above video. The video features her story on the 15 Sal??n Internacional de Historietas y Caricaturas Calicomix 2009 (15th Annual International Exhibition of Cartoons and Caricatures Calicomix 2009) where I was a guest speaker back in June. It’s in spanish of course but my interview section is in English with Spanish subtitles at around minute 4:15. There are also interviews with Mexican cartoonist Arturo Kemchs and Chilean cartoon historian/collector Claudia Contreras.

That was a really fascinating trip. I have been invited to attend a similar conference in Valparaiso, Chile about this time next year as a guest speaker. That gives me 12 months to learn Spanish. Debo aprender m?¬?s r?¬?pidamente!!

  1. John Calvin says:

Tom, Brazil is great, but if going there, brush up on your Portuguese, “Voce deve aprender mais rapidinho.” Similar, but not the same as Spanish. Love the Blog.

    • Tom says:

Ooops. Actually it’s not Brazil where we will be going. It’s Chile, specifically Valparaiso. That’s Spanish.

  2. Nate says:

Once again, that looked like an awesome experience! Nice interview
