New Workshop & Online “Experience”

October 5th, 2021 | Posted in News

Some news on the workshop front! Due to the continued unknowns of the pandemic, and because I was trying to concentrate my efforts on putting together my online video workshop, I have not scheduled any in-person workshops since 2020 (although I did a few makeup ones in 2021). Frankly after the nightmare that was 2020 and all the cancellations, postponements and re-postponements I was not planning on doing any or very few live workshops anymore, and that is still more or less the plan.

However friend and fellow caricaturist Thomas Counts has been after me to do a workshop in his newly built private art studio out in Riverside, California, which is just east of Los Angeles. I figured it would be safe to schedule one in a private venue like Tom’s.

My Riverside CA Caricature Workshop will take place Jan 22-23rd, 2022 at Tom Counts’ Art Studio. Members of my mailing list were notified early so only 5 spots remain. If you are interested, you can reserve your spot here.

If all goes well at this one, I may schedule a few more in person workshops in 2022. I have been struggling to find the time to get the virtual version done, and it realistically won’t be ready to go until sometime in 2022. So assuming the pandemic is well and truly behind us next year, I can possibly resume doing a few in person workshops here and there.

HOWEVER, if you are really wanting a virtual taste of one of my workshops, there is a new option for you!

I was recently added to the AVVA Experience stable of “virtual experiences” with a 90 minute private caricature workshop experience. While certainly NOT a substitute for my full workshop, this mini-workshop includes an opening presentation on the basics of caricature, then drawing three celebrity faces which the organizer of the experience chooses beforehand, and then a final caricature of someone the organizer provides photos of. I draw on my Cintiq along with the group. The base price includes up to 20 people. This is as much a social experience as an art class, so there are plenty of laughs and time for Q&A, and we often drink and draw. These are pretty fun, and I do them from my home studio. AVVA caters mainly to corporate clients but anyone can book one of these events, and as they are based in the UK these experiences are available both in the US and internationally.
