NCS Kids Activity Book!

The National Cartoonists Society, of which I am a longtime member and a past president, just released a fun kid’s activity book as part of their “Cartooning for Kids” program. Originally this was going to be a printed book that the NCS would have available for schools, kids organization and for our children’s hospital visits, but the coronavirus scuttled all that. Instead, the NCS has made it available as a PDF that anyone can download and print out (although they will eventually have a printed version). They are suggesting a donation of any amount you choose for the book, all the proceeds of which will go to the National Cartoonist Society Foundation, the charitable arm of the NCS, to help fund future “Cartooning for Kids” programs and hospital visits.

The book is 50 pages of puzzles and activities, all of which are done “coloring book” style so kids can both do the activity and color the pages. There are too many to name but you’ll find art by some of the biggest names in cartooning in there… and me. I did this quick caricature tutorial page you see above. The model is my son-in-law and “American Ninja Warrior” star Leif Sundberg! I only had one page to do this, so it’s necessarily abrupt, but the whole idea is to get kids drawing and engaged.

The cover is by the great Sergio Aragonés! If you have any kids that are bored out of their minds and need something fun to do (or maybe YOU do) you can download it here. Please consider a donation to the NCSF as well. They have a lot of programs worthy of support, including the Jay Kennedy Memorial Scholarship and the Milt Gross Fund.
