NCS Foundation Charity Auction Online!

I’m currently the president of the National Cartoonists Society Foundation, which is the charitable arm of the National Cartoonists Society. The NCSF is a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization that has several programs including the Milt Gross Fund, which provides financial assistance to cartoonists and their families who are experiencing hardships or emergencies, the Jay Kennedy Memorial Scholarship, which is an annual grant going to a college student of cartooning, and the “Cartooning for Kids” program, where members draw for patients and their families in children’s hospitals and for underprivledged kids, providing art supplies and education. We also sponsor or help support cartooning events and educational programs all over the world.

Next week is the annual NCS Reuben Awards, and this year the NCS is partnering with Comic Art Fans and 4C Comics conducting an auction during the Reubens to benefit the Foundation and help support our programs.

There are a lot of great original art pieces in the auction. I donated two items. Above you see the original inks for the splash page of MAD’s spoof of the TV show “Ray Donovan” from MAD #534. That’s a whopping 32″ x 21.5″ on two boards, pen/brush and ink on bristol with the copy pasted up using archival materials, and signed.

The other piece I donated was a vintage Mort Drucker original I had. It’s page 3 of the feature article “Man of Science” from MAD #61, March 1961. Pen and Ink on 17.5 x 24 CraftTint board, signed by Mort. This is a pretty rare piece, definately early Drucker and before he settled into his more familiar movie/TV parody style.

There’s a lot of other great stuff from a lot of cartoonists whose names you’ll recognized. All the money raised goes to the NCS Foundation. Bidding goes through Sept 7th. Support the NCSF if you can, and get a fantastic piece of original cartoon art in the process!
