MADness #43- Holiday Movies!

October 18th, 2021 | Posted in MAD Magazine

Looks like it’s Monday AGAIN, so time for another naustiating look back at my work for MAD Magazine! This week’s episode is a holly, jolly look at the holiday follies that were the December movies of 2005. “MAD’s Inside Scoop on This Year’s Stupidest Holiday Movies” was written by Desmond Devlin and Scott Maiko, and first appeared in MAD #459, Nov 2005. The opening page with the “King Kong” movie gags was just reprinted in MAD #20 a few months ago.

I recently read that “King Kong” star Adrian Brody turned down a role he was offered in “The Lord of the Rings” which he regretted after seeing the first movie. He’d wanted to work with Peter Jackson, and was glad he got to in “King Kong”. Apparently he was supposed to be a “hobbit-like character”. I think we are all grateful he didn’t play a hobbit in LotR… I can’t imagine seeing his sad sack horsey face under a curly hobbit hair wig.

This was one of those jobs that I have little memory of doing or any real anecdotes about doing it. Since the image and gags were not reliant on my having seen the films, I think the only two of these I actually saw in theaters was “King Kong” and “The Goblet of Fire”.

Pencil roughs…

This job was the second on what would be my first run of more than 10 consecutive issues with my work in it.

Sorry not much backstory with this one. Toon in next week as we return to the world of TV parodies with yet another spoof of a “home improvement reality” series.
