So Why the Ads?

July 11th, 2013 | Posted in News

Successful cartooning in the digital world from rendrag Frequent readers of The MAD Blog may have noticed in the last week the presence of something not seen here in a long time… ads. If these bother you I apologize…the decision to put them back in after so many years was not made lightly. In the end the really insightful presentation on “Successful Cartooning in the Digital World” by Howard Tayler of Schlock Mercenary fame embedded above made me realize that not having them was dumb. They are unobtrusive, do not interfere with the enjoyment of the content on the site ad, and although the money… READ MORE

MAD Art for Kenosha Festival of Cartooning

June 25th, 2013 | Posted in News

The last two years the small but picturesque town of Kenosha, Wis. has been host to a very impressive cartooning event called, appropriately enough, the Kenosha Festival of Cartooning. Kenosha happens to be the hometown of cartoonist John Hambrock (The Brilliant Mind of Edison Lee), and his wife Anne is the driving force behind these terrific events. Previous years (2011 and 2012) featured stellar speaker lineups including the afore mentioned John Hambrock, Dave Coverly (Speed Bump), Greg Cravens (The Buckets, Hubris!), Norm Feuti (Retail, Gil), Michael Jantze (The Norm, Jantze Studios), Stephan Pastis (Pearls Before Swine), Hilary Price (Rhymes with Orange), Between Friends creator Sandra… READ MORE

The Kickstarter campaign to help cover the expenses of the upcoming Jack Davis retrospective I mentioned yesterday just got rolling. Go support this show if you can… their goal is only $3,000 but if they get more they… READ MORE
