The National Cartoonists Society has a long history of supporting our US Military, particularly during times of strife. In fact, the NCS was first formed in the 1940″s as a result of chalk talks that cartoonists got together to do for the troops during World War II. I’ve been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to go on several NCS Cartoonists/USO trips over the last five years to places like Germany, Kuwait, Iraq, Bahrain, Afghanistan and others. I’ll be at the Chicago Comic Con today through Sunday in Artist’s Alley booth #D3. I’ll have a stack of original MAD pages for sale ranging from $150 (cheap) to $900 (not so cheap, but two page splashes!), lots of Doctor Who prints where I will be ready to do the custom “Twelve Doctor Option” on them, copies of my book and stuff to do caricatures and sketches. The good news: On Sunday, the BBC announced that veteran British actor Peter Capaldi would portray the 12th incarnation of the Doctor in the next season of the mega-popular series Doctor Who. I’m back from Comic-Con International 2013 with a report on the event: Too many people too many funky smells not enough places to sit down New this year was the penchant for people to wear backpacks roughly the size of Rhode Island. Officially announced at the MAD Comic-Con panel on Saturday: Apparently TIME Home Entertainment was so happy with last year’s “Totally MAD” 60th anniversary book that they fell for another book pitch by those masters of schmoozing, the MAD editors! Now available for pre-order is “Inside MAD“, 256 pages of complete stupidity . . . and a few nifty surprises. Day one of Comic-Con 2013 is in the books. Oddly the crowds did not seem as enormous this year, which can’t be possible because as it’s sold out every day there can’t be more or less people in the place on any given day.
