Startup comics publisher Sitcomics new line of “Bingebooks” officially release today in select comic book shops across the US and Canada, including “Z-People”, the title I penciled and inked. You can get a free PDF preview of “Z-People” #1 and the other Sitcomics titles here. These are 64 page comics with no advertising for $3.99, so they deliver a lot more comic for your dough. Sitcomics is doing an endaround on traditional comic book distribution by direct distributing to comic shops. The good news is that, unlike most comic book companies and Diamond Distribution, Sitcomics does not solicit comics until they are already completed and… READ MORE

This was posted last week on the MAD‘s website/blog aka “The Idiotical“. I know there are a number of big plans for an increased MAD online presence both on their website and in social media, but I am not sure when it’s going to be launched. Probably with the first west coast produced issue in April. Will keep you posted. READ MORE

Caricature of Mort by me from the 2007 NCS Reuben Weekend (held in Orlando) art Comic strip legend Mort Walker passed away early this morning. His health had been deteriorating and he’d been hospitalized with Pneumonia recently, so we all know this was coming. The National Cartoonists Society has a nice write up here as does writer extraordinaire Mark Evanier here. Mort was, of course, best known for the long running syndicated comic strips Beetle Bailey (started in 1950) and Hi and Lois (started in 1954 with Dik Browne). By the way Hi and Lois is actually a spin-off of Beetle Bailey… Lois is Beetle’s… READ MORE

I just booked two more workshops for 2018: September 7-9th in Las Vegas and October 12-14th here in Minnesota! If anyone is considering traveling for one of these, the workshops I hold in MN are unique in that the Friday part of the weekend is held in my home and studio. You get a real look at my illustration process as I demo my inking and coloring in the actual space I work at and with the tools I use everyday. You also get to see a lot of original art, both mine and ones from some incredible cartoonists I’ve collected, get fed and watered… READ MORE

Speaking of workshops, my first workshop of 2018 started just a few minutes ago here in Los Angeles, CA! I am doing another one in the same location next weekend. Above is the “class illustration”. On the workshop front I am sold out in Atlanta (Feb), Toronto (June) Switzerland and London (Aug). I have a few spots left in Chicago (April) and Long Island City (May) and that one that suddenly opened up in Dallas (Mar). I am looking into possible locations and dates in Washington DC in July and Las Vegas in September, and maybe another here in Minnesota in October. Nothing solid yet,… READ MORE

I just had a spot open up in the previously sold out workshop in Dallas on March 9-11th. This has been an odd one. I usually have one, maybe two people drop out (especially when the deadline for payment of the balance of tuition comes nigh) but I have had an unusual number back out for the Dallas workshop. I have burned through my waitlist and now have a spot open and no one waiting on it. So, good news for anyone who wants to get in on the class! Claim that last spot here! READ MORE
