Next weekend I’ll be abandoning wintery Minnesota for sunny Anaheim, CA to attend Wondercon 2018! Wondercon takes place at the Anaheim Convention Center March 23rd-25th, and you’ll find The Lovely Anna and me at booth number SP-83. You will also find me at the highly entertaining Quick Draw hosted by Mark Evanier, where I will not be just making a cameo appearance, but will be one of the three participating artists! That means I’ll be going head to head with Quick Draw master Sergio Aragonés and Scott Shaw! Lonnie Milsap, which also means I’ll be getting my artistic ass handed to me. Should be fun,… READ MORE

Above: Class illustration from my recent workshop in Los Angeles Hey Northwest U.S. artists! Announcing one of my three day caricature workshops in Portland OR! The dates are Fri June 29th to Sun July 1st. The workshop will be taking place in the Wacom Experience Center at Wacom headquarters. This is a great space and best of all Wacom will be providing digital equipment for students to use if desired. As a result I’ll be spending a little more time demoing and teaching my digital coloring techniques than I usually do at these workshops. Otherwise the weekend will be the usual intense learning and drawing… READ MORE

I usually do not promote crowd-sourcing projects here, but as my artwork is involved with this one and part of the proceeds go to a very good cause, I’m making an exception. Caricaturist (and recent Golden Nosey winner) Manny Avetisyan is looking to produce a very unique book via Kickstarter that gives fifteen people (and five couples) the opportunity to be subjects in the book, getting drawn by as many as 27 (and possibly a few more) of the best live caricaturists on Planet Earth. That’s right, YOU can be one of the models, with page after page of caricatures of YOU from a massively… READ MORE

The workshop in Atlanta went well if you discount my mistake of calling in the catered lunch order to a Subway in Forest Park. My mom can make sandwiches faster than that and she’s dead. Otherwise lots of fun, drawing and learning! My workshop in May in Long Island City, NY is now officially sold out. Don’t worry, if you missed out get on the waitlist and you have a decent chance of getting a spot… I almost always have at least one person drop out for one reason or another. It costs nothing to get on the list and any open spots will be… READ MORE

My caricature workshop in Atlanta starts today through the weekend. It’s a little bigger group than usual as I added some people who either were supposed to be in a second one I had to cancel, or who won a spot in an auction to benefit the International Society of Caricature Artists. Let’s draw! There are still some open spots in my scheduled workshops in Chicago, Long Island City, Las Vegas, Minnesota and Los Angeles if you want to participate in this unique learning experience. I get a lot of people who tell me on Facebook of Twitter or wherever that they didn’t hear about this workshop that just happened close to them or that limited edition print or whatever until it was sold out, and wished they had as they would have liked to participate or get one. It seems some folks only occasionally visit the intensely riveting and regularly updated “Tom’s Mad Blog” rather than visit every day twice a day… who knew?? Okay, 99% of my posts are time wasting stuff, but sometimes I do announce something you might actually want to hear about! How do you… READ MORE
