Here We Go…
It’s been a long time since I’ve had to post this ugly bastard, but needs must. I’ll most likely be back on Monday for another stirring edition of my chronological look back at my MAD work. Have a great weekend! READ MORE

It is believed that the first piece of art was painted on the wall of a cave by early humans. The second piece of art was also painted on the wall of a cave, but the prehistoric person that painted it was heard to complain that “they just don’t make this paint like they used to.” So began a long tradition of artists complaining that the art supplies they make today are no where near as good as the ones they used to make…or they don’t make them anymore…Or they aren’t available, etc. Art supplies are discontinued, formulas changed, manufacturing methods altered, materials switched, etc.… READ MORE
British actress Barbara Windsor passed away on Thursday. She was beloved by fans in the UK for her roles in the raunchy “Carry On” movie series, the BBC soap opera “Eastenders”, and for being married to notorious gangsters. That’s her on the bottom right of this “Carry On” movie poster spoof I did the art for that appeared in Viz. Incidentally, I just found out Viz is selling this poster as a print, if you are interested. READ MORE

If you are a backer of CLAPTRAP, Desmond Devlin and my book of movie parodies funded via Indiegogo, you will know that since the end of the initial funding part of the campaign we have been polling all backers at the “Doofus” level and higher as to their choices for finalists for three of the last four parody subjects in the book. That’s right! If you backed us as a “Doofus” or higher YOU got to nominate films as subjects, and then you will get to vote to choose three that we will skewer in the book. Well, the nominations are in, and the results… READ MORE
Last week I put a dozen or so pieces of my original art from MAD Magazine in my Studio Store for a “Black Friday” sale. That’s rare nowadays because after MAD stopped doing the parodies I realized I was probably done doing this kind of work for them. What I had in my flat files was the last of the MAD movie parody art, so I pulled any MAD originals from my store and seldom offer them for sale anymore. That reminded me how rare these sorts of pieces of original art are starting to become… and not just because publications like MAD are going… READ MORE
I get a lot of people who tell me on Facebook or Twitter or wherever that they didn’t hear about this workshop that just happened close to them, or that Holiday Caricature Commission offer/virtual comic con, or whatever else until it was sold out, and wished they had as they would have liked to participate or get one. It seems some folks only occasionally visit the intensely riveting and regularly updated “Tom’s Mad Blog” rather than visit every day twice a day. Who knew?? Okay, 99% of my posts are time wasting stuff, but sometimes I do announce something you might actually want to hear… READ MORE
When MAD announced last year that they were not going to be doing any more movie or TV parodies, I immediately pulled any original MAD pages I had for sale in the Studio Store. I haven’t offered any for sale since, because neither I nor they are making them anymore. I figured I’d better hang on to any I had left, which isn’t a huge number as many have sold over the years. However for Black Friday this year I am listing a limited number of older pages at close to half the price I usually charge ($175 instead of $300). I’m listing them because…… READ MORE
