Next month several hundred caricaturists from all over the world will descend on the unsuspecting city of Raleigh, North Carolina to attend the 17th annual National Caricaturist Network’s convention. No caricaturist should miss attending at least one of these gatherings in their lifetime. I am not exaggerating (pun intended) when I say it can be a career and life changing event. There is a wide diversity of style, skill level and application within the NCN itself and especially on vivid display at their yearly convention. The black sand beach at Waianapanapa State Park near Hana on Maui The Richmond Family returns today to the wonderful world of impending snow and ice of Minnesota from the Hawaiian islands. The Lovely Anna and I renewed our wedding vows for our 20th anniversary on the 13th from a beautiful beach in West Maui, surrounded by family and friends. The weekend of October 4th and 5th was the 20th anniversary of the Minnesota FallCon comic book convention in St. Paul, MN. Thanks to Northwest Airlines I missed Saturday but made it on Sunday. It’s fun to go to these kinds of shows now and again. No, MAD isn’t exactly “The Uncanny X-Men” but I do get a few people who stop by and tell me they read and enjoy MAD. The view from our Lanai 10 years ago The Lovely Anna and I took a trip for our 10 year anniversary (at least that’s the excuse we used) to the island of Maui, Hawaii and basically fell in love with the island. We bought a timeshare week there and have traveled to Maui every year since, usually just the two of us but occasionally with close friends with whom we were able to share the charm and beauty of this Hawaiian island. Today is travel day back to Minnesota from Germany. In fact as this is posted I should be somewhere over the Atlantic on the way back home. On Monday and Tuesday I will post a complete report of the trip. It was amazing. In the meantime I will be spending this weekend, jet lag and all, set up at the Minnesota FallCon comic book convention taking place at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds both on Saturday and Sunday. I’ve written many times about my practice of listening to audiobooks when in the studio, and especially books by one of my favorite authors Stephen King. As I’ve said before, King’s combination of great storytelling, rich and engaging characters and dialog, plentiful humor and supernatural/strange subject matter makes for the best kind of audiobooks. I’ve been perplexed for years about the lack of certain King audiobooks on either CD or download. Today marks 20 years since The Lovely Anna and I were married in St. Paul, Minnesota on a beautiful Friday autumn evening.
