The Dreaded Deadline Demon

I almost made it to the end of my comic book project without resorting to the DDD… but not quite. READ MORE

Caricature and the Right of Publicity- Reblog

February 16th, 2009 | Posted in General

As I mentioned the other day I am extremely busy right now, and trying to keep any meaningful content on the blog is difficult. I thought I might, under these very occasional circumstances, take a page out of my friend Cedric Hohnstadt‘s book and do a little something called “Reblogging”. Cedric does (or did) that every so often. After being in existence for a long time, a blog will have a lot of back content that is buried so deep no one will ever see it unless they specifically search for it… and if they don’t know it’s there they can’t do that, can they?… READ MORE

Live Caricature (sort of)

February 14th, 2009 | Posted in General

A few Sundays ago I worked at my Nickelodeon Universe location with fellow illustrator James Hungaski, which is something I haven’t done much of for a long time but likely will be doing a lot more often… especially this summer. I was going to bring a camera and snap pics of some of the lives ones I did but I just didn’t have the energy. I did do this one from a couple of pictures in between customers, which I mailed out to the subjects (a couple of friends from Nevada). They wanted a Batman/Catwoman theme. Not much too it… I was plenty rusty Sunday.… READ MORE

More Super Capers Movie Stuff

February 10th, 2009 | Posted in General

Right now I am deeply immersed in trying to kick out a 13 page full color promotional comic book that is to be given away as a promo item for the movie “Super Capers”. I did a bunch of illustration work for the film, which will appear during the opening credits and in a flashback scene near the beginning of the movie. The movie will debut in select theaters on March 20th, and if sells a predetermined number of tickets it will get picked up by a major distributor (there is a deal in place) and will be shown in about 2000 theaters this summer.… READ MORE

Ready to Watch the Watchmen

February 6th, 2009 | Posted in General

I am officially getting excited about the Watchmen movie, especially after I saw this “public service announcement” recently: There are a lot of fans of the graphic novel that are still worried about the film adaptation of their beloved Watchmen falling short of expectations. I’m not one of them, even though I am an enormous fan of the original Alan Moore/Dave Gibbons masterpiece. Why not? Simply put, there is no possible way for a film, unless it was 10 hours long, to capture all the intricacies and subtleties of the graphic novel, so I don’t expect it to. The Watchmen is incredibly involved… I… READ MORE

25 Random Things About Me

February 6th, 2009 | Posted in General

This has been all the rage on Facebook for the last week or two. The concept is that you write a note with 25 random facts about yourself and then “tag” 25 of your Facebook friends with the results. They in turn need to do the same, tagging 25 of their friends and so on. Ordinarily I hate these kinds of things. I get seemingly endless invites to join all sorts of goofy groups and add applications on Facebook that I always ignore, but this one is kind of fun. So, since not everyone is on Facebook (and sorry to those who saw this there… READ MORE

MAD on the Internet?

February 3rd, 2009 | Posted in General

In the wake of the “MAD going quarterly” announcement, one common response I’ve read is that MAD didn’t make any real attempts to create an internet presence to compliment (supplement?) it’s printed incarnation, and that helped lead to the circulation difficulties. I’m not sure how anyone works out that offering MAD content for free on the internet would somehow equate to getting people to pay for content in a magazine, but certainly in terms of introducing MAD to new young readers who spend most of their time on the internet, it makes some sense. Almost all magazines these days have websites with some kind of… READ MORE

Bluhmin’ Good Book

January 30th, 2009 | Posted in General

I’d like to take a second to shamelessly plug a new book that will be released to the wide, wide world in March but is currently available for pre-order at an internet near you! Joe Bluhm is one of those artists that makes other artists jealous. His talent is prodigious, his enthusiasm for his art immense, and his dedication to it all inspirational. I kind of hate him… but not really. Actually he’s a good friend, and he’s got a new book coming out that is going to be a must have for the bookshelf. The book is called “Sketch Infectus”, and it’s chock full… READ MORE
