Now that we’ve moved on “down range” I can say that our group of cartoonists spent Saturday and Sunday at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center and the Ramstien Air Force Base in Germany drawing for wounded soldiers, hospital staff, service men and women stationed there and their families. More details after I return. READ MORE

The great Sergio Aragon?¬©s is celebrating 50 years as a professional cartoonist, which since 1963 include his contributions to MAD Magazine. The Huffington Post has an artcile about Sergio and his new book MAD’s Greatest Artists: Sergio Aragon?¬©s: Five Decades of His Finest Works (which, BTW, is as fantastic as you would expect). An Aston Martin DB5 built for the filming of the 1965 James Bond film “Thunderball”complete with (mostly) functioning gadgets was auctioned off yesterday in London. The famous modifications include front machine guns that shoot blanks, an ejector seat (that doesn’t work), radar navigation, a nail spreader, tire shredders, bullet shield and a revolving number plate. Man, I really wanted that car, but as it went for $4 million it was exactly $3,999,990 more than what The Lovely Anna allows me to spend in online auctions. While visiting the theme parks here in Orlando this week I got the above idea for a possible promotion Disney could do for the upcoming “Cars 2” movie by modifying their motorized rental scooters. Something tells me not to bother submitting it to Disney World for consideration… READ MORE

What the ?!? Yes, this time I’m off to Orlando and the House of Mouse with the family for a little vacation. I know I promised a report on last weekend’s Festival of Cartoon Art at OSU in Columbus, OH, but as I was forced to leave a day early due to a couple of emergency jobs coming in I could not pass up, I barely got to experience any of it. In fact, I only got to hear the presentations of Paul Levitz, James Sturm and Dan Piraro and hang out with some cartoonists pals for two nights, so I will leave the reporting… READ MORE
