I thought I’d get the later Stooges out of the way before getting to the three that most people recognize as the “definitive” Stooges. Today we have “Curly Joe” DeRita, who took over for Joe Besser after The Stooges and Columbia parted ways. READ MORE

Last week I posted this sketch of Shemp Howard, one of the “Three Stooges” (well, “Six Stooges” really, but only three performed at a time). It went over pretty well, so I have decided to make this week “Stooges Week” here on Tom’s MAD Blog! I’ll be posting a new sketch of a Stooge each day. Since Shemp has already appeared, we’ll do the other five as the week goes on. Today’s Stooge is Joe Besser, who took over for Shemp after Shemp took over for Curly who took over for Shemp. Holy melanoma, Batman! Back in 2010 DC Comics, in an effort to integrate DC Entertainment more into the Time/Warner entertainment division, moved its digital and multi-media sections out to the Warner Bros. complex in Burbank, CA, but left the publishing end of DC Comics in the New York offices. At the time they said that the “New York publishing culture” was important to the division and that publishing operations would stay in NYC. At the time I said: “Good news for MAD, because I doubt many or any of the current staff would be too interested in relocating from NYC to Burbank. I’ve got nothing… READ MORE
