Q: Is it hard to turn off your “artist mode”? That is, do you encounter new faces on TV or in the newspapers or even during real-life conversations and find yourself calculating angles and shapes and relationships as if you were going to draw them? Illustration Throwback Thursday- Star Warped!

Back in the late 90’s a company called Parroty Interactive contracted me to do art for a series of spoof computer games. This was back when such games came on these shiny disks called “CD ROMS”. I did varying amounts of art for different games with titles like “The X-Fools” and “Winblows 98”. The project I did the most work for was a game called “Star Warped”, which was obviously a take on Star Wars. HITS Magazine Cover

I collaborated with MAD art director and illustrator Sam Viviano on this cover for the latest issue of HITS Magazine, which celebrates their 30th anniversary. He did the layout and composition, I did the finished illustration. I”m not sure what the Alfred E. Neuman connection is, but he’s been on their covers before. Monday MADness: Goodnight Batcave Pencils!

Goodnight Batcave, written by Dave Croatto with art by me and the first of a new line of MAD parody books, is officially released tomorrow! Here’s a peek at a couple of the work-in-progress penciled pages and cover from the book (some of the art and copy were tweaked in the final version): Don’t forget to pick up a copy for a holiday gift for that little caped crusader in your life. Q: Your Sketch o’the Week book looks great. When are you going to do a “The Art of Tom Richmond” book, with high quality reproductions of some of the work you’ve done?
