This weeks Monday MADness is a look at the original pencil roughs from the movie parody of “Superman Returns” written by MAD‘s Maddest Writer Dick DeBartolo and originally appearing in MAD #468, August 2006. Q: Are you going to make an update of your poster of the presidents of the U.S.? A: No. I still have a lot of those left over that did not sell. I’m not going to print it all over again just to add one more face. Every year they have a big convention/competition somewhere in the U.S., where hundreds of caricaturists from all over the planet gather and draw each other silly for 5 days, eventually voting on winners in many different categories and crowning a “Caricaturist of the Year” (aka the “Golden Nosey”). They also have a lineup of speakers and presenters. This year… READ MORE

Q: You put a lot of effort into your caricatures of people, and they’re brilliant. Your animals are also brilliant. How much effort do you put into animal caricatures? A horse is a horse I guess, but there are many breeds of dogs to get right. How hard is it to do them all in your style? And what happens when you have to draw an animal you’ve never done before? A sloth? Or a horseshoe crab? Or a giant weta? A: Thanks for the kind words! I’m not sure “caricature” is a term you can strictly apply to an exaggerated drawing of something other… READ MORE
