Have to post a flashback SotW this week as I am crushed under deadlines right now, so here’s RUSH frontman Geddy Lee. This one appeared in my book The Mad Art of Caricature, originally done in pencil but with digital washes added for publication. READ MORE

Here’s the spot illustration I did for the Fundalini Section of the latest MAD. You’ll just have to go out and buy the fershlugginer magazine if you want to know the context, cheapskate. Since I did this art, Sean Spicer resigned and Anthony Scaramucci was hired and fired. Who knows, by the time this gets posted online Sarah Huckabee Sanders will go missing and Scott Baio will be the new White House Press Secretary… … actually in today’s West Wing Circus, that’s more of a reasonable prediction than an absurdity. Absurdity has been cancelled until further notice. READ MORE

Q: I know that you mention the inside/out method when working on live caricatures, but I wanted to know if you still use that same method when working in studio on celebrity caricatures? A: No, in the studio I usually start with the head shape and rough I'd the basis features, then go back in and draw it out more completely. For that final stage I do work from the eyes and interior features out and make adjustments as I go. This is actually still the same process as what I do with live work. Even though the first thing I draw in a live… READ MORE

I know I just got back from San Diego Comic Con, but now here I am off to Wizard World Chicago formerly known as Chicago Comic Con, Aug 24-27th at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL. Alas I will be solo this year as The Lovely Anna has a family event that cropped up that weekend that I should be at also but I am committed to being at the show. I am actually a featured guest at this show! I’m moving up in the world I guess (hello Comic-Con International and ReedPOP… hello?). Anyway part of that is you can use… READ MORE

Orange is the new Blecch, pages 2-3, original inked art I mentioned when I posted about San Diego Comic Con that I would not be bringing any original MAD art to conventions anymore. They take up too much room on the table and in my luggage, and I seldom sell more than the occasional page. I did, however, promise to put some pages for sale here on the website. So here they are. Some facts about these pages: They are all original inked art from various published parodies in MAD Inked with pen and brush on heavy bristol board, some contain some wash work The… READ MORE
