MAD posted a sneak peek of this on their Instagram page yesterday so I guess I can share it here. I did the art on this ad parody written by Grant Reed that appears in the latest issue (MAD #13, Jun 2020). While shipments of the printed magazine (and all comic books thanks to Diamond Distribution) to comic book shops are being suspended, MAD is still being printed and sent out via subscription and digital. This issue should be showing up in mailboxes right about now. Digital distribution on April 15th. READ MORE

Here’s my take on today’s subject, Anthony Bourdain! His face has so much to work with it’s hard to know where to start. Overll he has a long, narrow head shape but where do you exaggerate the length? I find the distance between the nose and mouth, and the mouth and chin, to be the most important to exaggerate, so that requires me to give him a short nose and a smaller forehead. He has a very wide chin and prominent lips. Expression-wise he has sad, “hush puppy” eyes and a pursed sort of mouth. READ MORE

I did this for UK humor mag Viz as part of a gag ad for a collector’s plate commemorating Prince Andrew’s 60th birthday. You’ll have to do a search for “Price Andrew Pizza Express” to get the story. Here’s the actual page from Viz #294: I may use “Poland Piano” as a pseudonym from now on, although that is a poor picture of me. BTW the guys at Viz are damn funny. READ MORE

Last week I did a little tour of my studio and an inking/drawing demo on the National Cartoonists Society’s Instagram. Unfortunately Instagram does not save that sort of video, and in fact the entire first hour with the studio tour was lost right after it was done because I had to start a new video feed to continue past that first hour, and that replaces the previous “story” instantly. So, I am going to do it all again on Wednesday, this time on my Facebook Art Page. Tune in at 5 pm Central time on Wednesday when I’ll give you a live tour of my… READ MORE

Here’s’ a quick sketch of Awkwafina for the Daily Coronacature. Kind of pressed for time today. Here’s a bonus one of here from a panel in MAD #2’s “Xander and Kam’s Sneaky Previews” from Awkwafina’s role in “Ocean’s 8”: READ MORE

Whoopi has a very wide face, widest at the cheeks. The shape created by the area between her nose and upper lip, defined by the nasolabial furrow (the “laugh lines” that go from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth) is very prominent. She has a kind of “Grinch” smile: She also has a very small, sunken chin, and when she smiles were eyes krinkle up on the outside corners. No eyebrows! Lots of fun to draw. READ MORE

If you missed me yesterday on the National Cartoonists Society‘s Instagram Live feed, catch me doing something similar tomorrow, this time on the International Society of Caricature Artists‘ public Facebook page at 6 pm Eastern (5 pm Central). I’m doing the rounds of all the societies. I haven’t decided what I am going to do yet… it’ll be a caricature but maybe an ink/wash job, or watercolor. We’ll see. Anyway you’ll find them on facebook @ISCAcaricatures! READ MORE
