Since it looks like I’ve probably done my last job for MAD Magazine, I am going to start showing each piece I did for the magazine in chronological order here on the Monday MADness feature, and telling any stories associated with them. I know I showed a few of these recently but I’m a completist so here’s my first ever published MAD piece, from MAD #399, Nov 2000 written by Dick DeBartolo. This was not actually the first piece I ever did for the magazine. I did this one in September of 2000, and my first assignment was in June of 2000, but that one… READ MORE

Q: While at MAD, you always received boards with the word balloons already configured. Now with CLAPTRAP, you get scripts directly from Desmond and I assume the laying out of those balloons falls into your hands. I’m curious how you find that new responsibility? A: MAD‘s art staff always did the “mechanicals” as they called them for the parodies I drew, although I only received them on actual art boards for the first year or so I worked for the magazine. Ah, those were the days! In fact, the first few parodies I did not only did MAD send me the art boards with the… READ MORE

That’s a wrap! The “funding” portion of Des and my crowdfunding campaign has ended, and our Indiegogo page has moved into the “Indemand” phase. This will last until the book ships next year. Indemand is basically just an online store where you can pre-order a copy of the book. Most of the previous perks that were available have now gone, having been available only during the “funding” part of the campaign, and helped us reach our initial goal and all the stretch goals. There’s still some fun extras available and different price points to preorder the book: The “Clod”– A basic copy of the hardcover… READ MORE

Thanks to the incredible support of our backers, CLAPTRAP‘s 5th and final stretch goal just got unlocked! There will now be TWELVE FULL MOVIE PARODIES in the book, which if you include the six movie poster spoofs from our previous stretch goal and other surprises, will probably push the book close to or over 100 pages!! THANK YOU ALL! WOW… What’s next? The “funding’ portion of the campaign ends at midnight PST tomorrow, and the book project’s Indiegogo page moves into the “Indemand” phase. Indemand is basically an online store, where anyone can go in and preorder a copy of the book. This will continue… READ MORE

When Desmond and I announced the last two stretch goals for CLAPTRAP, we knew it was a really long shot we’d be able to make it to $64,000 by the end of the campaign. In fact, we figured it was impossible. We had a long way to go, not a lot of time to get there, and all the really big ticket perks were sold out. But “go big or go home” as they say. We threw those last two goals out there with no real hope for that “add a twelfth parody goal” to be reached. Well… As of this posting, WE ARE ONLY… READ MORE

It’s coming down to the wire! Only three days to go on our campaign! It’s time to offer something new, different, exclusive, a great value, a little nauseating, and for a very limited time. We’ve just added a new, stand-alone perk to the CLAPTRAP campaign! The “Rube” perk features a complete set of all five of my exclusive comic-con mini-prints: Clint Eastwood James Bond Adam West as Batman Alfred as the Joker from Tom’s cover of Batman-Superman #10 “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” TV Guide cover, as seen in the movie! These 6″x 9″ (TV Guide is 6″ x 8″) cardstock miniprints have previously only ever been available at Tom’s… READ MORE

Here’s my take on Anya Taylor-Joy. What a face this gal has got. She has very obvious features to exaggerate with the eyes that seem twice as big as eyes are supposed to be, plus they are extremely far apart. However that’s only part of her unique look. She also has unique and sharp lips, a widish jaw but very high angles of her mandible bone, and a tiny little chin. There is nothing about her look that is not very distinct, which makes drawing her a lot of fun. Who said you cannot caricature beautiful people?? Original of this one is available in the… READ MORE
