A week or so ago I hinted about something new I would be debuting at New York Comic Con, but I needed to wait until I got the proof to be sure it was going to turn out. Well, I got that proof yesterday and everything is a “go” for my first sketchbook collection Sketch o’the Week (and other stuff) Vol. 1! It’s a 6.625 x 10.25 square bound paperback, 60 black and white pages with a UV coated glossy color cover (proof above has a standard cover, I’m upgrading to the UV coated one), containing 100 sketches. Q: I was wondering if you ever get tired of drawing. If so, what do you do to stay motivated, other than getting a paycheck 🙂 A: I love my job. Here’s my annual(ish) plug about MAD Magazine’s website/blog aka “The Idioitical”. While the magazine only comes out every other month, the editors and creators at MAD publish new and very timely content almost daily on their website. Here’s a sampling of some recent stuff. If you are not visiting madmagazine.com regularly, you are missing out on some laughs! READ MORE
New York Comic Con is only a month away! I’ll be there in Artists Alley at table A6 with my usual plethora of crap for sale, including this NYCC exclusive 6″x9″ mini-print. I’m also going to have a new item available that I think people will really like, that will be available on the website as well. I am waiting for the proof to be delivered to be sure the print job is up to par… once I get that squared away I’ll let everyone know about it. Hope to see some of you at NYCC, Oct. 6-9th at the Javits Center! READ MORE

I get this question often, especially from young artists (or the parents or young artists) who are seeking advice on art as a career and the role of higher education in that career. Artists that ask this question seem to lean towards the idea that higher education is a waste of time and money, and parents of young artists that ask it lean towards the idea that college is a necessity. Both are wrong to some degree. Art school or no art school is an age old question, but one with an easy answer… if you find the right school it is worth the time… READ MORE
