Q: Did you have a mentor? Where you a mentor? A: I guess that depends on your definition of “mentor”. To me, that means someone who has actively helped teach you and guide you in your career and goals, as opposed to just being an inspiration with their own work and career. The latter are more “influences” than mentors. I have been lucky to have had (and have) a few people in my life that I would say fit the mentor mold. The first would have to be Steve Fasen and his brother Gary, who gave me my first job in art as a caricaturist… READ MORE

I recently closed down my combo caricatures and airbrush tattoo booth at Nickelodeon Universe at the Mall of America and rebranded it “Paint ‘n Pixels”, a caricature booth that offers either traditional airbrush caricatures or ones done 100% digitally… both for the same price. The traditional caricatures are our usual originals done with either graphite or marker (depending on the artist) and airbrush, where you get one original on 12×16 paper. The digital verison is done using ClipStudio Paint on a 16″ Wacom Workstudio Pro, and you getth both a high resolution 12 x 16 print and a screen resolution version either emailed or messaged… READ MORE

Here’s the first page: MAD certainly has been on a kid’s book parody kick lately. Check out the rest on Paste Magazine’s website. READ MORE

Back in MAD #513 (Feb 2012) I did the art for a “MAD 20” piece written by Kit Lively & Scott Nickel making fun of the big bag of crazy that was Charlie Sheen. I have this caricature of him on my comic-con table banner and it often stops people in their tracks because of the funny mash-up concept. The art called for both a main image and spots of mock comic book covers for “The Sheen Lantern”. Pencil rough and close ups of the comic covers below: READ MORE
