Two years ago this August I wrote about how a publisher in Korea purchased the Korean foreign language rights to my book The Mad Art of Caricature, and planned on publishing a Korean language edition of it. The publisher took a lot of liberties with the placement of the art, and made some weird choices. Especially on the cover, where they moved some of the images around ignoring the fact that… READ MORE

Here’s a peek at some of the preliminary sketches I did to work out how we were going to handle the look of Batman for Goodnight Batcave. Originally he started out more comic-bookish, and then we started working him toward a more cartoony and exaggerated form, loosely based on the “Batman- The Animated Series” look. Sorry for the poor scan, but this is the only image I have of this piece. This was a spot illustration for Minneapolis/St. Paul magazine back in 1995 of some of the stars of the stage musical “Victor/Victoria”, pictured are Julie Andrews, Tony Roberts, Michael Nouri and Rachel York. The Broadway show premiered in a test run here in the Twin Cities in the summer of ’95, and then had a couple of years on Broadway. This was done in ink and watercolor on illustration board.
