The National Cartoonists Society just released the names of the nominees for the 2016 award for “Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year”, also know as “The Reuben”. Quite a slate of talent: Lynda Barry Stephan Pastis Hilary B. Price Mark Tatulli Ann Telnaes Follow this link for some short bios on each nominee, The Reuben is meant as a recognition for outstanding work in the year in which the artist was nominated, in this case 2016. The registration page for my Munich, Germany caricature workshop is now live! The workshop will take place July 7-9th, 2017 at the Leonardo Hotel Munich City South. That’s a Fri, Sat and Sunday. I’m honored to be a special guest and The Lakes International Comic Art Festival in the Lakes District, Kendal, UK on October 13-15th, 2017. The guest list is gigantic and full of world class comics creators (and me). One of the biggest features of the event this year is the appearance of MAD legend Sergio Aragonés, who will be bestowing the newly minted National Cartoonists Society‘s “NCS Sergio Aragonés International Award for Excellence in Comic Art”. All the proceeds go to the NCS Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) charity that works with the NCS to promote education in cartooning, encourage aspiring cartoonists through scholarships, and to provide assistance to cartoonists in need. I have just confirmed two weekend workshop dates for here in Minnesota this coming spring: April 28th-30th May 5th-7th Both will take place at the Quality Inn and Suites in Eagan, MN. Tuition is $500, with a refundable $100 deposit to reservce your space. The Minnesota workshops are unique in several ways: First, they only cost $500. My out-of-town workshops are going to be $600 from now on due to the time involved, travel costs, shipping costs, and the higher costs of the venues.
