Here we go with another of the stumbling steps on the path that was my work for MAD Magazine. This week is another oddball sort of assignment that, frankly, I still have no idea what the joke was really supposed to be. It was written by Grant Reed, and appeared in MAD #13, June 2020. Welcome to the beginning of the end. MAD #12 (April 2020) was released shortly before the pandemic hit, but COVID had little to do with what was happening at MAD. This was the first issue that showed what MAD was going to be like going forward… issues built around a theme with features related to that theme curated from the archives. This issue’s theme was TV. Of the 56 pages in the magazine, only 13 featured all new material, not including the cover and the letters/table of contents pages. Here we go with another of the last few stumbling steps of my work for MAD Magazine. This was the second of the two pieces I did the art for in the “MAD 20 Dumbest People, Events, and Things of 2019”, and Advent calendar featuring potential 2020 Democratic presidential candidates, written by Amanda Stellberg and first published in MAD #11, Feb 2020. Here we go with another step on the sick and diseased road that was my work for MAD Magazine. This week we look back at one of the two pieces I did for MAD #11, February 2020. Written by Sarah Hutto, this piece was prophetic given the time of its release and considering today’s headlines. Welcome to another edition of Tom’s Monday MADness, the seemingly endless look back at 25 years of my work in MAD magazine, complete and unabridged! MAD #43 drops today and it contains 16 pages of new material (including the cover and Fold-in) including the first TV parody since “The Manmaid’s Tale” in MAD #10, Dec 2019! Desmond Devlin wrote and I drew a four pag spoof of “Squid game”. Last month also had a number of pages of new content, including a short parody of film, “The Substance”. I warned you I was going to stubbornly finish this pointless trek through my work at MAD magazine, even if it killed me and bored you to death as well.
