Q: What are your thoughts on The Batman trailer that dropped? A: I thought it looked good. It’ll be dark (big surprise there) but I’m hoping we get to see Batman the detective more than Batman just running around beating up small time criminals. There are hints this might be the case. I am still not sold on Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman. He isn’t physical enough for the part. Q: It’s obvious you were “Born To Draw,” but just for slaps and giggles let’s pretend you just made different life choices … what profession/ career/ job do you think you might have settled on? Having attended a workshop and having watched your videos I can’t help but think “Educator” suits you! Just curious. A: I get this question now and then, but I’ve never really had a good answer for it because all I’ve ever want to be was an artist. I used to have a fair number of art concessions businesses that operated in theme parks and tourist centers around the eastern half of the U.S. At one time I had locations in Atlanta, St. Louis (two there, actually), Agawam MA, New Orleans, and two here in Minnesota- Nickelodeon Universe, the theme park within the Mall of America, and Valleyfair, a seasonal theme park south of Minneapolis. Over the years I’ve slowly gotten out of that business, and now only have the two operations in Minnesota still going. Here’s a couple of the “Live Caricature” style commissions I’m doing after my virtual San Diego Comic Con event last weekend. I’ve got a LOOOONG list of these and MAD cover commissions. It’s going to take me a while to get them all done. I’ll post a few every now and then. If you missed out on getting one, don’t worry. Wow, I have a LOT of drawing to do!!! If you have not heard from me about your commission I should be getting an email to you shortly. Then I have to draw draw draw! While you can always order any of my prints or books anytime in the Studio Store, I’m closing my commissions until next time! I seriously doubt we’ll see another major comic-con this year, so I will do this all again during the weekend of New York Comic Con in October, unless by some miracle they actually hold the convention in NYC. Here’s some samples of recent commissions from my virtual Artist’s Alley table! These are color and Black & white “Mock” MAD covers, done on 9×12 bristol in brush pen and Copic markers. I’m also doing pencil sketch covers, and “live caricature” style drawings of “Alfred as… somebody”, you, your mom, your gardener, or whoever you can get me pictures of. San Diego Comic Con is supposed to be in full swing right now, but thanks to the pandemic the San Diego Convention Center is all quiet. The SDCC folks are doing a virtual comic con instead, complete with an online exhibitor’s hall! My virtual booth is open for business through Sunday only.
