This past weekend I was in New York to FINALLY do the last of my pandemic postponed workshops. This workshop was originally scheduled to take place in early May 2020, but was postponed due to the then newly raging pandemic. We rescheduled it for October of 2020 but it had to again be postponed due to continuing restrictions. We finally got the class in, with a few new people taking the place of some who had dropped out. I am being asked by a few if I will be doing in-person workshops again. I don’t have an answer for that. I know I will not… READ MORE

I’ve been MIA for a while here on the blog, and for those frequent visitors and readers I apologize for that. A major job plus a big family wedding plus a family medical crisis plus a make up workshop took me away from the studio and any blogging for a while. The job is complete, the wedding over, the medical crisis is moving in a positive direction and the workshop was just this past weekend. I’ll be back in the studio later today and it will be (almost) business as usual. I’ve got to get back to work on CLAPTRAP and other stuff, but I’ll… READ MORE

Here are a last couple of mock MAD covers from my “Virtual Artist’s Alley” event back at the end of March. I may do another one of those during the San Diego “Comic-Con @ Home” event next month, but I might be too busy with CLAPTRAP to do another so soon. We’ll see. Thanks to everyone who purchased some of my garbage! READ MORE

No “Monday MADness” today. Here in the U.S.A. today is a day to remember all those who have given their lives in the service of our country, both in the military and (in my book at least) as first responders. For several years I was lucky enough to be part of a number of National Cartoonists Society/USO tours where groups of cartoonists travelled to military hospitals both here and abroad to draw wounded warriors and their families, and into active war zones to draw for our troops serving overseas. I drew caricatures for our service people in places like Germany, Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar,… READ MORE

I definitely get some interesting commission requests when I do comic cons or “Virtual” Artist Alleys. This was one of the more interesting ones I got from the VAA I did back in March… Groucho Marx as “The Comedian” done as a live caricature style sketch. READ MORE

I’ve lately been posting all these “mock” MAD Magazine cover commissions I’ve been doing, so it’s nice that I can now finally show the REAL MAD cover I did a few weeks ago. The gang at MAD (can you call two people, Suzy Hutchinson and Bern Mendoza, a “gang”? I guess so… of IDIOTS!) just revealed the cover of MAD #20, with art by me! This one was a very last second job for reasons I won’t go into. The image is obviously based on what was the “placeholder” image for the advanced solicitations of the issue: A “placeholder” cover is an image the publisher… READ MORE

Here’s few more “mock” MAD cover commissions from my last “Virtual Artist’s Alley” event. Brush pens and Copic markers on bristol. Note I now add a tagline to the top of the cover! I suddenly realized since I am doing these at home and not at a comic con at an actual Artist’s Alley table, I can add a custom tagline via my studio printer right on the professionally printed “MAD” bristol cover stock. I sure am doing a lot of these fake MAD cover commissions. Wouldn’t it be nice to do another ACTUAL MAD cover? That would be really cool… READ MORE
