The Value of Brainstorming

December 16th, 2011 | Posted in General

One thing I have always had to fight against with respect to my professional work is my tendency to visualize a single solution to an illustration project and just run with it. While that is the least time-consuming way to go about things, it is also just plain lazy. It is always advisable to force yourself to come up with a few other ideas, if for no other reason than to explore the concept and exercise your conceptual skills. The magic number I always adhere to is three… I want to come up with three different ideas for an illustration that communicate the message and… READ MORE

The MAD Blog Returns!

My apologies to all for the extended hiatus. It’s a long story involving FTP permissions, security and other client son the same servers I was on… it would be extremely boring to go into it. One would cost you a measly $25 including shipping in the US or $28 including shipping to the rest of the world. It’s a deal to kill for… if you have a license for that sort of thing, of course. Click the image above or this link for all the gory details. READ MORE

TMAoC Book on Amazon! Need Reviews!

November 29th, 2011 | Posted in General

Phase two of the marketing of my book, The Mad Art of Caricature! is on with the listing of the book on Amazon.com. As I discussed in this post, listing the book through on-line retailers like Amazon (and soon Barnes and Noble) brings the book beyond the relatively narrow audience of this blog and offers it to the world-at-large. The trade off is that Amazon takes a whopping 55% of the cover price, and I have to pay to ship the copies to them, so the amount of profit I realize on a sale through them is significantly less than when I sell it directly… READ MORE
