My 2023 lineup of caricature workshops only have a handful of spots left! If you have been considering taking one of my weekend long classes, don’t wait too much longer! Minnesota and Orlando have been sold out for weeks. Denver had been sold out for weeks until this morning, when one spot opened up due to a cancellation and a depleted waitlist. There are a few spots left in Dublin and San Fransisco, but that’s it! Book a spot soon before they are all sold out: READ MORE
I just got confirmation that the incomparable Al Jaffee passed away early this morning at 102. This is a hard one. Within any art form there are some creators who are just plainly on another level than the rest. There will always be a debate about who is the G.O.A.T. in anything creative, but the sign of true greatness is always being one of the people in that conversation. Any debate about the greatest cartoonist of all time that does not include Al Jaffee is not a legitimate debate. Like so many, I grew up a fan of MAD Magazine. I loved the work of… READ MORE
I knew I shoulda turned left at Albequerque! Welcome to another miserable MAD Monday, where we continue our decent into the drug-addled abyss that was my work for MAD Magazine. When you think about it, this whole look back at my MAD work is a little like meth… it makes you sick and you don’t want to keep doing it but now that we’ve started we just can’t stop! This week we take a look at one of my favorite pieces I did for the magazine. One of the questions I get asked a lot is “is it easier to do a spoof of a… READ MORE
I saw that Lisa Marie Presley passed away the other day, and I remembered this theme park sample I did of her back in 2003. The gag with Elvis rolling over in his grave was about his likely disapproval of her choice in husbands and not her career path. Anyway RIP Lisa Marie… 54 is too young to go. READ MORE
Happy Thanksgiving for all those who celebrate it! It’s time for my annual posting of this turkey of a sketch, although I happened to find the original drawing in an old sketchbook recently so this is a fresh, higher-res scan. May your day be filled with friends, family, fun, laughs, and turkey… but not this guy. READ MORE
Happy Veterans Day to all those who serve or have served our country in the military. Thank you for your service. I never served but have several family members who have, including my grandfather who was a World War II army veteran who was stationed in the south pacific during the war. I also had the privilege of meeting and getting to know many service men and women on all those cartoonists USO trips I went on. Today is the official day to recognize and thank them all, but really that should be every day. READ MORE
It’s the return of my in-person caricature workshops! I’m going to do a handful of them next year (locations TBD) and I have been reworking some of my teaching methods and approach, so I thought I’d try sneaking a “getting back into it” workshop in on short notice. This one will take place in Las Vegas the weekend of Dec 10-11th. As with the ones I did for a few years pre-pandemic, the class size is limited to twelve students, so there is lots of time for personal instruction. I’ll be trying a few new things I’ve been thinking about with this workshop, but much… READ MORE
