This is one I meant to do back when I was doing my “TV Guide Cover” series… Art Carney, Joyce Randolph, Jackie Gleason and Audrey Meadows, the cast of the immortal TV sitcom “The Honeymooners”. I did a SotW years ago of just Gleason, but the whole cast needed doing. READ MORE

Welcome again clods to another installment of the rapidly closing trail of travesty that was my work for MAD Magazine… Oh look! ANOTHER “Batman” assignment! If you’ll recall our last two episodes featured a Batman cover and a two page Batman gag feature from MAD #23. It’s a good thing I am well versed in all things Batman! It was almost a year previous I did those two pieces for #23. Since then, nothing. Zero. Nada. Zip. Goose egg. Zilcho. It looked like maybe I was really done with MAD. Then the 70th anniversary of the magazine happened, and the beancounters in the accounting department… READ MORE

I’ll be spending two weeks in the Orlando area in November, so I scheduled a rather unique version of my workshop up in the Villages area of central Florida… a one-day workshop! This is a bit of an experiment to see how a shorter, more streamlined version of my usual two-day workshop will work. I’m skipping a lot of the extraneous stuff I usually do like the long “live caricature” exercise (we’ll just get a taste of that instead), and streamlining the individual features lessons, but the majority of the information I share in the full weekend class will remain. The benefits of this format… READ MORE

It’s time for another entry in the long and dusty tome that is the history of my work for MAD Magazine. Holy New Content, Batman! This would be the first new piece inside the magazine I had done in eight months. MAD Empress Suzy Hutchinson convinced DC to open the checkbook so SOMETHING inside the magazine related to the current subject matter on the cover, and this issue was all about “The Batman” film that had just come out. So, Desmond Devlin and I teamed up on this two pager that appeared in MAD #23, February 2022. Above are the pencils I turned in. I… READ MORE

Back in the 1970-80s a lot of TV sitcoms revolved around a single set with a cast of quirky, interesting characters referred to as an “ensemble” cast. An ensemble cast meant there was no single main character the show concentrated on, but rather all the cast members had roughly equal importance and screen time. The sitcom “Taxi” was one of my favorites of those types of shows. It was full of talented actors that would go on to become big name entertainers like Danny DeVito, Judd Hirsch, Christopher Lloyd, Marilu Henner, Jeff Conaway, Tony Danza, etc. Among the characters was a quiet, wide-eyed immigrant mechanic… READ MORE
