The Dark Tower

I guess I’m a sucker for book series and epics. If I was put on the spot to name some of my favorite books, I’d include J.R.R. Tolkein‘s Lord of the Rings, Frank Herbert‘s Dune books, J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books and Robert E. Howard‘s Conan stories. It’s not like I don’t read other books and enjoy the work of many other authors, but these long tales seem to keep ending up on my night stand or playing on my iPod every few years… they are like visiting old friends or putting on a favorite pair of shoes. Arguably near the very top of my… READ MORE

Q: What sort of sequencing do you use when you do caricatures live? Do you draw in the head shape first, or start with an individual feature? A: I was taught to start with the interior features first and work my way out and I still feel that is the best way to do it when working live. If you work from the head shape in, you are immediately locked into your entire caricature and all the relationships it will describe once the head shape is done. This often leads to generic looking caricatures… drawing the same face/head shape over and over again, and having… READ MORE

On the Drawing Board

Here are the finals for the workplace poster and the Scholastic job. Both were pretty rushed: The basketball poster is 17 x 17 inches and the Scholastic images are spots only about 4 inches wide, as you can tell from the level of detail. I just got assigned a quick turn around job for MAD and have another TV show parody in the works. READ MORE

ME Gallery Rules…

I just need to take a short break here to apologize for something. If you haven’t explored any more of this website beyond the blog, the link icons up above lead to lots of art and other stuff, including an area called the Me Gallery. This is my collection of caricatures drawn of myself over the years, at NCN conventions, vacations, from colleagues and peers and from people over the internet who take the time to draw me from the provided photos just for fun and to be included. The Me Gallery is a lot of fun and a great way to see how different… READ MORE

PS3 Lays an Egg for Blu-Ray

December 20th, 2006 | Posted in It's All Geek to Me!

A few weeks ago a wrote this post about the high definition DVD format war and how it’s shaping up. Briefly, two competing formats are trying to become the next DVD standard. In one corner you have Blu-Ray, backed by Sony and numerous other hardware companies and movie studios. In the other corner you have HD-DVD backed by Toshiba, Universal and a few others. Sony is the main backer of Blu-Ray. They pioneered the technology and are the driving force behind it’s marketing and roll out. In case you aren’t familiar with Sony, they have been down this road before. In the mid-seventies Sony introduced… READ MORE
