I should have called the first try I posted of David Caruso “Sketch o’the WEAK”. I looked up some better reference so I could redeem myself while I took a little break this afternoon. I like this one much better. It was obvious to me after looking at a few different pictures of Caruso that his posture is a big part of his overall look. He puts his hands high on his hips with his elbows back, shoulders slumped and head craned forward and cocked to one side. I spent the weekend before last in St. Louis checking up on my Six Flags and Union Station caricature artists. On my way to the airport I got the opportunity to stop in to the MAD Art exhibit at the St. Louis Artist’s Guild Gallery with my friend, caricaturist and illustrator Jim Batts and his friend, illustrator Rick Bernal. Sadly I had only about an hour to see the show, which wasn’t nearly enough time. There was a feature story in the New York Times this weekend about a recent comic strip/comic book that was illustrated by comic legends Neal Adams and Joe Kubert, with a forward by Stan Lee, done in support of artist and holocaust survivor Dina Babbitt. Mrs. Babbitt has been struggling to regain possession of paintings and artwork she was forced to do when she was in Auschwitz by the notorious Josef Mengele. Q: Do you have a hard copy of your blog in its entirety? ( a printed out version) If not, why? Do you have it saved elsewhere other than its own server–dvd, flash drive, another hard drive, on a website specifically for backing up blogs? I know you have had some glitches with it in the past, how do you try to avoid or deal with that possibility? Have you ever used it in any form of marketing for your art? The Pen is Mightier Dept. I promised to let everybody know where they can order one of the sculpted Sherlock Holmes pens that were created based on an illustration of Holmes that I did for voice artist extraordinaire David Ian Davies as “cover art” for his complete collection of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Holmes “Canon” audiobooks. I also had a little down time at the theme park on Monday to do two new samples for the display wall. Again, these are based on previous “Sketch o’the Week” drawings and are executed in graphite/freehand airbrush in a manner that is consistent with what customers can expect to see if they get a caricature: The similar head and body angle is just coincidence. I wouldn’t want to hang these samples next to one another for that reason. READ MORE
