Today several sources are carrying an AP story on the next issue of MAD and it’s cover boy, Alfred E. Bieber. Due on news stands on February 22nd, the issue takes some shots at the Canadian singer including dissing his movie, his book, his music and, of course, the fact that he’s Canadian. 😛 I’ll publish a table of contents of the issue likely Thursday, in which I have a 6 page parody of a popular TV show. I can’t say the name of the show until I get the official okay from the guys at MAD, so I won’t MENtion it here until I… READ MORE

Q: I usually assume most artists are skinny or out of shape guys like computer nerds… but when I saw your picture you looked like a WWF wrestler. I workout myself and I was wondering if you could share with us your regiment and more importantly your diet and/or supplements. For instance I stick to a complex carbohydrate diet and I take creatine. I lift weights every 3 days yet I go all out. My main exercise are bicep curls and dips with a weighted belt. Also, I was wondering if you could share with us people’s reaction (such as fans or industry professionals) to… READ MORE

There is going to be a new book on the career and art of Jack Davis set to be released on Aug 17th. From the publisher: Jack Davis: Drawing American Pop Culture is a gigantic, unparalleled career-spanning retrospective, between whose hard covers resides the greatest collection … in terms of both quantity and quality … of Jack Davis’ work ever assembled! It includes work from every stage of his long and varied career, such as: excerpts of satirical drawings from his college humor ‘zine, The Bull Sheet; examples of his comics work from EC, MAD, Humbug, Trump, and obscure work he did for other companies… READ MORE

It’s half universal truth and half industry punchline that veteran artists often lament that “they just don’t make art supplies like they used to”. Younger artists usually roll their eyes, but just wait about 1o years, whippersnapper. When some art supply or tool that you have been using for a long time suddenly becomes discontinued or the manufacturing process with it changes so it doesn’t perform as you have been used to, it can drive you crazy. Creating is a personal process and there is nothing more frustrating than when something you previously relied on to do this suddenly refused to do it and instead… READ MORE

©2010 MAD Magazine and E.C. Publications, used with permission MAD #508 is hot off the presses and will be showing up in mailboxes and news stands soon… I’ll post a table of contents and some sneak peeks of my contribution to the issue when that date gets closer. One thing readers will find in this latest issue is a call for some birthday love for the great Al Jaffee… he of the fold-ins, snappy answers and lots of other cartoony goodness over the last five decades or so in MAD. Al turns 90 on March 13th. Here’s what you’ll find in MAD #508 on the… READ MORE

Didn’t get the “Sketch o’the Week” posted until 7:20 pm… it’s been one of those weeks. I try to avoid doing caricatures of reality TV show actors stars people, mainly because IMO 99.9% of them don’t deserve a moment of fame. Almost all of them have only one skill to boast of, and that is the ability to somehow get in front of a camera. Unfortunately it seems the publications I usually go to get references for pop culture subjects do not agree, and page after page are filled with pictures of reality “stars”. This week I gave in and did a caricature of Khloe… READ MORE
