If you are lucky enough to be in NYC tonight, no doubt you’ll be at the Society of Illustrators at 6:30 PM for the inevitably fantastic panel discussion on the life and work of Harvey Kurtzman with Drew Friedman, Robert Grossman, Al Jaffee, and Arnold Roth, moderated by Peter Kuper. That is, if you bought a ticket. If you show up and you don’t have a ticket, you’re a schmuck. If you are like me, and stuck in the frozen wastelands of the country, then you can at least get a little taste of the action by listening to Drew, Arnie, and Al on the… READ MORE

Q: Is it possible to get your book, The Mad Art of Caricature, in Spanish? A: I’ve gotten this question several times asking about getting the book in Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, etc. The folks who ask are always so nice so I hate saying this, but I am afraid the answer is no, not as long as it is self published. I have looked into the feasibility of doing a foreign language edition of the book, and what I have found is that¬¨‚ĆI cannot do it myself, simply because the complexity of the endeavor makes it too expensive and unwieldy to do a translation. I… READ MORE

Back in January I got a call from MAD art director Sam Viviano about a side project they were working on…DC wanted to celebrate MAD‘s 60th anniversary with a series of variant covers by the Usual Gang of Idiots for thirteen of their titles. Knowing that I am a huge Batman fan, Sam suggested to the MAD editors that I get to do one of the Batman titles. I was assigned the cover of “Detective Comics”. Given my own choice, I would have picked Detective as well, as opposed to “Batman”. Detective Comics was the title I collected as a kid, and it being the… READ MORE

This week’s SotW subject is one of the stars of “The Walking Dead” (and one of my favorite movies, “The Boondock Saints”), actor Norman Reedus. Today’s sketch is done today in celebration of the occasion of Mr. Reedus’ annual shower, which is rumored to happen just before St. Patrick’s Day whether he feels he needs it or not. EDIT- My twitter feed blew up yesterday with a few people upset by my gags concerning Mr. Reedus’ hygiene (most people enjoyed the joke). Good Lord, people… it’s a joke. You have to admit Norman looks like he just rolled out of bed in every picture you… READ MORE
