Comedian Gilbert Gottfried and writer Frank Santopadre do a terrific podcast called “Gilbert Gottfried’s Amazing Colossal Podcast!”, and they recently posted a MAD-centric “mini episode” featuring senior editor Joe Railoa and writer Desmond Devlin. It’s a lot of fun so take a listen. By the way, among his long list of writing accomplishments like doing comedy material for a who’s who list of comedians, TV shows and publications, Frank is also a long-time writer for MAD. In factr he and I collaborated once on a feature called “Honey Boo Boo’s Family Circus“. READ MORE

Q: Why didn’t MAD Magazine approach you to design a Star Wars themed cover for their latest issue (#539) considering the excellent work you did illustrating The Force Awakens parody? Glad you liked it.To answer your question, MAD had just done a Star Wars cover a couple of issues earlier so no doubt they felt they didn’t want or need another so soon, even if the issue did contain the actual film parody. You see that a lot these days. The magazine will have a movie cover subject on… READ MORE

One of the staples of a live caricaturist’s repertoire in an adult setting like that are “boob gags”. Not exactly highbrow humor but your play to your crowd. Quite a few of the women joke about giving them bigger breasts in the drawing, and 100% of the men with them… READ MORE

The International Society of Caricature Artists is a 25 year old organization of professional caricaturists from around the world. They’ve had a podcast for awhile called the ISCast but recently rebranded it “Exaggerated Features“, which is also the title of their long running newsletter/magazine. I was interviewed by host Cory Lally for the latest episode. The podcast is now available on iTunes and via Soundcast. It’s only 13 minutes long, so it’s not a major time commitment. I’m the first in an ongoing series that asks different artists “What is a Caricature?” My initial answer was “about $30”, but Cory wanted something more in-depth. If… READ MORE
