Goodnight Batcave, written by Dave Croatto with art by me and the first of a new line of MAD parody books, is officially released tomorrow! Here’s a peek at a couple of the work-in-progress penciled pages and cover from the book (some of the art and copy were tweaked in the final version): Don’t forget to pick up a copy for a holiday gift for that little caped crusader in your life. Q: Your Sketch o’the Week book looks great. When are you going to do a “The Art of Tom Richmond” book, with high quality reproductions of some of the work you’ve done? A: Never say never, but pretty much never… for a couple of reasons. Vanity press books are not my thing. I am getting very close to having enough people on my waitlist for my planned Orlando Caricature Workshop in January to add a second one either the weekend before or after. Stan Sakai is one of the most talented and beloved creators in comics. His Usagi Yojimbo comic series is a marvel of the art of comic book storytelling, among many other terrific projects he’s worked on. He’s also one of the kindest and most humble people you will ever meet. Without going into it Stan had a lot of personal heartbreak in his life not that long ago. Q: My question probably has a different answer for each individual but I’d like to know your thoughts about developing a unique style. I spend a lot of time looking at different styles and techniques of caricature both traditional and digital.
