NYCC St. Jude Benefit Auction!

October 3rd, 2016 | Posted in News

Every year the folks at New York Comic Con put on an auction of original comic art to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This year they have their usual stellar lineup of art from over 100 different creators. You can visit their auction page to see much of the art that will be auctioned off, and for more info. I donated the piece above, one of the pages from MAD‘s parody of “Man of Steel” from issue #524. The auction will be held Saturday night (10/8) at 6:45pm in room 1A18 at NYCC in the Javits Center in NYC. It’s not online so you… READ MORE

Sunday Mailbag- Switch to Digital?

October 2nd, 2016 | Posted in Mailbag

Q: When (and why) did you make the switch to doing your artwork digitally, and do you ever miss the traditional media you used to use? A: Back in the early 90’s I was using a combination of watercolor, acrylics and airbrush to do color illustrations. here are a few very old examples: Right around that time I started doing a series of comic book style booklets for a company that produced anti-drugs, anti-smoking, anti-drinking and other anti-stuff materials for schools. They wanted me to do the work digitally, so I bought myself an Apple Macintosh computer and taught myself how to use Adobe Illustrator.… READ MORE

SotW Book in the Store for Preorder!

September 30th, 2016 | Posted in News

I just got the big shipment of final printed copies of my Sketch o’the Week, Vol. 1 book in yesterday. The print job looks good! I have added the book to the Studio Store, but it’s unofficially a “preorder” right now. I still want to wait for the first copies to be sold at New York Comic Con next week, and I am crazy busy right now trying to get my studio work done before I head to NYC next week so I don’t have time to sign and ship copies anyway. All orders placed between now and Oct 10th will ship on the 11th.… READ MORE

Workshops Wrap-Up

September 27th, 2016 | Posted in General

As many of you know, I spend the last two weekends conducting workshops on caricature in the nearby city of Eagan, MN. Both workshops started with a Friday night welcome party at my house and a look at my studio, and continued at the host hotel on Saturday and Sunday. Each workshop had 13 students. Here’s a brief synopsis of what we did: Friday night: The entire group came over to Casa del Richmond for some of The Lovely Anna’s culinary goodies, a few adult beverages, a goody bag full of stuff, and a tour of the studio. I showed the group the process I… READ MORE
