I usually do not promote crowd-sourcing projects here, but as my artwork is involved with this one and part of the proceeds go to a very good cause, I’m making an exception. Caricaturist (and recent Golden Nosey winner) Manny Avetisyan is looking to produce a very unique book via Kickstarter that gives fifteen people (and five couples) the opportunity to be subjects in the book, getting drawn by as many as 27 (and possibly a few more) of the best live caricaturists on Planet Earth. Sorry no time this week for a Batman villain sketch… I’m really under the gun with a deadline. Instead, here’s a little look at what we do in one of my caricature workshops. The above is one of 30 faces in our workshop book that we draw live in class. The book contains a selection of different face types, ages, races, male/female, etc. Part of what we do is examine each face, discuss observations and how to exaggerate what we see, and I draw the face along with the class with my drawing projected on a big screen as it’s being done. Announcements are starting to happen about the MAD reboot (rebirth?) courtesy of DC Entertainment. MAD #551 will be a new MAD #1. Alfred has been updated. Lots of other new things will start to be announced leading up to the April release of MAD #1 (Vol 2). The workshop in Atlanta went well if you discount my mistake of calling in the catered lunch order to a Subway in Forest Park. My mom can make sandwiches faster than that and she’s dead. Otherwise lots of fun, drawing and learning! My workshop in May in Long Island City, NY is now officially sold out. Q: Will you please do one of your caricature workshops in my area/backyard? A: I get this one a lot… every time I announce a workshop in fact. The answer is probably not, but feel free to suggest a location. I choose where I am going to try and do a workshop based on a few factors. Population, obviously, is a major one.
